Dr Almas Agha (f)

Profile: Dr Almas Agha graduated in 1996 from Baqai Medical University Karachi. She joined the practice in November 2019 and has 22 years’ experience of working as a doctor and 17 years as a GP. She is a highly passionate and dedicated GP, although her area of focus lies in diabetes management, her expertise extends to treating other chronic illness including hypertension, heart failure, chronic kidney disease and lipid management. She has recently joined expert training in the management of COPD.
Dr Agha is competent in joint injections and IUD fitting and removals. She is a GP trainer and an educator who is regularly imparting her knowledge and skills to fellow GPs and other clinicians. She is a speaker and has given lectures on diabetes and management of COPD. She is the practice lead for Safeguarding children and adults.
Dr Agha is associated with the Royal College of General Practitioners and was awarded with MRCGP with Merit in 2007. She has recently been chosen as a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
Dr Agha is also associated with the British Muslim Heritage Centre and has worked alongside Diabetes UK in delivering lectures to the local community, identifying their risk and educating communities. She was awarded a Champions Muslim Community award for her services to the community in 2022.
Dr Agha is a member of the LMC and practice representative for our local PCN.

Additional qualifications: She holds a Diploma from the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive health and has also been awarded a Diploma in Diabetes from John Moores University Liverpool.

Dr Maria Ahmed (f)

Communication skills: understands spoken Punjabi and Urdu

Profile: She is a GP Trainer and leads on research and quality improvement at the practice, including the safety and optimisation of workflow and standard operating protocols. In addition to her primary care qualifications, Dr Maria holds degrees in Public Health, Healthcare Leadership and Medical Education. Her PhD involved leading the development, delivery and evaluation of an innovative patient safety training programme ‘Lessons Learnt’ for all 1000+ Foundation doctors across the North West. Her work has been recognised with a number of prestigious awards including the NHS Leadership Academy Senior Healthcare Leadership award and she has published her research widely through peer-reviewed journals, books and presentations.

Dr Maria brings a wealth of experience in healthcare leadership and consultancy gained via her previous roles including as Non-Executive Director at NWAS, CQC Specialist Advisor, GMC Education Associate, Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester (CBME), Trustee of the Clinical Human Factors Group and member of NHS England’s Primary Care Patient Safety Expert Group. Outside work, Dr Maria enjoys spending time with her husband and three young children, who keep her very busy.
